How to Find Us

The Royal Albert Edward Infirmary is located on the A49 road to Preston

about 1 mile north of Wigan town centre.

Directions from the M6

• Leave the M6 at junction 27. Follow signs for Standish and Wigan, A5209. If exiting southbound from the motorway this will be the first roundabout exit. If exiting north bound this will be the last roundabout exit.
• After ¼ mile turn left at T-junction.
• Continue on A5209 for about a mile into the centre of Standish to a traffic light controlled crossroads. Here turn right onto the A49 for Wigan. At this turn Somerfield supermarket is on your left and the parish church spire is visible ahead.
• Continue on the A49; initially High St and then Wigan Road.
• After about a mile and a half turn right at a mini-roundabout. There is a petrol station on the left at this roundabout.
• Continue straight on for about 1 ¼ miles. The hospital is on the right just after a further roundabout.

Parking is available on site and along nearby roads, but spaces may be limited at busy times.

Directions for car users.

Fulwood Hospital is located on the north eastern outskirts of Preston near to junctions 31a of the M6 and junction 1 of the M55. There is no need to go anywhere near the centre of Preston in order to get to the hospital.

From junction 31a, M6 (north bound access only):

From slip road take third exit from roundabout onto Longsands Lane. Continue straight ahead at next roundabout (i.e. second exit) into Andertons Way B6242. Turn right (second exit) at next round about into Eastway B6241.

It is not permiited to turn right on this road to access the hospital so continue on until next roundabout and go fully around it to return along Eastway (the road you have just driven along). Return almost to previous roundabout but turn left immediately before traffic lights. The hospital is signposted here.

Turn left at immediate fork into Midgery Lane and then left into hospital grounds. Car park is to the right immediately in front of the hospital.

From junction 1 M55:

NB the M55 is accessed from junction 32 of the M6 and junction 1 follows immediately after leaving the M6. Directions are given as if travelling from the M6. From slip road turn left at roundabout onto A6, then immediately left onto Eastway (B6241).

At next roundabout turn right (third exit), continuing on B6241.

At next three roundabouts continue straight on (continuing on Eastway).

Turn left immediately before traffic lights. The hospital is signposted here.

Turn left at immediate fork into Midgery Lane and then left into hospital grounds. Car park is to the right immediately in front of the hospital.
